Gaza Peace Board formally announced, Shahbaz Sharif signs

Board of Peace aims initially to support Gaza’s post-war transition

DAVOS: (Web Desk)- U.S. President Donald Trump formally unveiled the draft of the Gaza “Board of Peace” on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signing the charter on behalf of Pakistan in a high-profile ceremony attended by leaders from several countries.

Addressing the gathering, Trump expressed gratitude to participating nations, saying the initiative reflects a shared global desire for peace in the Middle East — a region long plagued by conflict. He claimed that under his leadership, “impossible and great things were made possible,” noting efforts to reduce tensions in various hotspots around the world.

Trump reiterated his stance on Gaza and Hamas, stating that the group must be disarmed or otherwise “eliminated,” while also highlighting his administration’s broader diplomatic aims, including peace in Ukraine and discussions with Iran. He reaffirmed that the United States will protect its interests and enhance border security.

In his remarks, the U.S. President also touched on global defense cooperation, noting that almost all NATO members have increased their defence spending, and he outlined various achievements his administration attributes to recent policy efforts.

Pakistan’s decision to join the Board of Peace aligns with its recent acceptance of Trump’s invitation, aimed at bolstering efforts for a permanent ceasefire, expanded humanitarian aid, and Gaza’s reconstruction under a U.N. framework.

While the Board of Peace aims initially to support Gaza’s post-war transition, Trump has suggested the body could play a wider role in global conflict resolution — a vision that has garnered mixed reactions from world capitals and analysts alike.
