Earthquake Jolts Punjab, Islamabad; No Casualties Reported

ISLAMABAD: An earthquake struck several cities of Punjab and Islamabad on Saturday morning, triggering panic among residents who rushed out of their homes fearing aftershocks.
According to the National Seismological Center, the earthquake measured 4.2 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of 15 kilometers at around 9:37 am. The epicenter was located approximately 50 kilometers southwest of Tarbela.
Tremors were felt in Attock, Hassanabdal, Kamra, Hazro, Kharian, Islamabad and surrounding areas. Many residents were seen reciting Kalma-e-Tayyaba as the ground shook. However, no casualties or damage to property were reported in initial assessments.

Earlier, on December 19, 2025, a stronger earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale was felt in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The quake occurred at a depth of 12 kilometers, with its epicenter in the Hindukush region of Afghanistan.
The tremors were experienced in upper areas including Malakand, Dir and Chitral, while an aftershock was also felt in Landikotal and nearby parts of Khyber district. Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm and follow safety precautions in case of further seismic activity.
