Punjab Assembly welcomes Field Marshal Asim Munir’s appointment as CDF

The Punjab Assembly has formally welcomed the historic appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as the country’s first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and reaffirmed its support for his five-year tenure as Chief of Army Staff. The resolution was submitted by PML-N member Hina Parvez Butt.

The assembly described Munir’s appointment as a milestone for national security, noting that his leadership will align the country’s defence strategy with modern requirements. Lawmakers highlighted that the five-year term ensures continuity and stability within Pakistan’s military command, strengthening the armed forces’ role in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, security, and regional stability.

The resolution also welcomed the extension of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu’s tenure as Chief of Air Staff, citing it as a timely decision to bolster the country’s aerial defence capabilities.

Members of the Punjab Assembly paid tribute to the professionalism and sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces, recognising the army, air force, and defence institutions as pillars of state strength. The resolution stressed that consistent and coordinated military leadership is essential for achieving the nation’s economic, political, and security goals, and urged all national forums to work collectively to further strengthen defence institutions.

The assembly affirmed its full support for all national security decisions and pledged that Pakistan’s institutions would continue to work in unison to protect unity, peace, and national defence.
