Indian Captain Shubman Gill Hospitalized, Ruled Out of Test Against South Africa
The hosts currently hold a slim lead of only 63 runs on a challenging wicket.
India’s Test captain Shubman Gill has been hospitalized due to severe neck pain and has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing first Test against South Africa.
The incident occurred on the second day of the match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday. Immediately after hitting a boundary, Gill complained of sharp pain in his neck and left the field.
According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), he was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation at the end of the day’s play and is currently under observation.

The board further stated that Gill’s participation in the upcoming matches remains uncertain, and the BCCI medical team is continuously monitoring his condition.
The first Test of the two-match series is nearing its conclusion on just the third day, with South Africa set to resume their second innings at 93 for 7. The hosts currently hold a slim lead of only 63 runs on a challenging wicket.
India’s second Test under Gill’s captaincy is scheduled to begin on November 22 in Guwahati, but his availability has now come into serious doubt due to the neck injury.
