Trump sends 200 National Guard troops to Oregon amid protest
Oregon sues the Trump administration to block the federal deployment of National Guard soldiers to Portland.
US – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – President Trump has sent 200 Oregon National Guard soldiers to Portland using his federal powers. This decision has angered the state’s Democratic leaders, who quickly took the administration to court to stop it. A memo from the Secretary of Defense called the troops to duty right away for two months. This happened just after the President promised to send soldiers to what he called a troubled Portland, claiming it was under attack by extremist groups.
Oregon’s Governor, Tina Kotek, strongly objected to the plan. She told the President, “Oregon is our home, not a place for the military to target.” Soon after, the state’s Attorney General filed a lawsuit against top officials in Washington. The lawsuit claims the President is using the military for his own political benefit and not for true safety reasons.
While state governors usually lead the National Guard, the President can take control during emergencies. The Guard often helps with storms or fires, but the President has also sent them to other states led by Democrats. The state’s lawyer said this move was more about the President showing power and getting on television than protecting people.

The order came after protests at federal immigration buildings continued in Portland and other cities. Over the weekend, the number of protesters in Portland was small. The President also pointed to a violent shooting at a Texas immigration center, blaming left-wing groups without showing proof. However, studies show that in recent years, acts of deadly political violence have more often been committed by right-wing extremists.
