PM Shehbaz, Bill Gates Reaffirm Commitment to Polio Eradication & Health Reforms in Pakistan

PM expressed deep gratitude for the Gates Foundation’s longstanding support in Pakistan.

New York: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Bill Gates, founder of the Gates Foundation, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York, with a strong focus on strengthening Pakistan’s health sector.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed ongoing efforts to eradicate polio, improve nutrition, and provide humanitarian support in flood-affected areas. Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed deep gratitude for the Gates Foundation’s longstanding support in Pakistan’s polio eradication campaign, calling the partnership “crucial” to achieving a polio-free future.

He also acknowledged the Foundation’s contributions to improving nutritional standards across the country, particularly among children and vulnerable populations.

The Prime Minister lauded the Gates Foundation’s swift and impactful response during the devastating 2022 floods, as well as its continued support in recent disaster relief operations. He described their efforts as “a lifeline” for millions affected by climate-induced calamities.

Beyond healthcare, PM Shehbaz also appreciated the Foundation’s role in supporting economic reforms and digitalisation efforts, noting that these initiatives were contributing to Pakistan’s broader development goals.

The meeting concluded with a joint commitment to continue working together for a healthier, more resilient Pakistan. Both leaders agreed to deepen collaboration in public health, disaster response, and digital development in the years ahead.
