Government Ministries to Get Their Own New Mobile Apps

How Pakistan's new strategy aims to harness artificial intelligence for economic growth and public service.

Pakistan – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – The government has asked the Ministry of IT to focus on building useful business apps, not complex AI systems. The goal is to create tools that boost the economy right away.

The ministry will also use AI to build custom apps for other government departments. These apps will streamline workflows, increase efficiency, and improve how the government manages its work.

This new direction is part of the National AI Policy for 2025, which the cabinet approved in July. Leaders praised the ministry for creating the policy and offered ideas to make it fit Pakistan’s needs even better.

The Prime Minister supported the plan, calling AI an essential tool for modern times.

Preparing for the Future of Work

The cabinet acknowledged that AI might change some jobs. They stressed the importance of retraining workers to learn new skills for the future.

To build a tech-savvy workforce, the policy will help universities produce more AI graduates. It will also introduce basic AI concepts in schools to prepare children early on.

A key goal is to ensure everyone benefits from AI, not just a privileged few. The policy aims to prevent a technology gap between cities and rural areas.

The Ministry of IT will work with the Finance and Planning Divisions to secure the necessary funding and will also prioritize a new Cloud Policy.

Pakistan’s Growing Tech Potential

The cabinet learned that Pakistan’s IT sector is thriving and is now a major force for economic growth. The industry is innovative and resilient, with exports showing strong double-digit growth.

This success puts Pakistan on the global tech map as a promising destination for investment. Emerging technologies, especially AI, are now of critical strategic importance for the nation.

Worldwide, AI is transforming major fields like farming, healthcare, and energy. While it offers huge opportunities, it also comes with risks that need management.

The global AI market is projected to be worth over $1.8 trillion by 2030. Now is the perfect time for Pakistan to create a unified plan to seize this opportunity.

A Unified National Approach

The new National AI Policy is built on six key pillars: fostering innovation, raising awareness, ensuring security, guiding transformation, building infrastructure, and encouraging international partnerships.

Right now, AI efforts in the country are scattered. This policy will act as a central guide, coordinating all projects to avoid wasted effort and missed chances.

It will align investments in research, talent, and infrastructure. Most importantly, it will bring together experts from universities, businesses, and the government to build AI solutions designed for Pakistan’s specific challenges.
