Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed an additional 25% tariff on imports from India, bringing the total U.S. tariff on Indian goods to 50%.
According to a statement released by the White House, President Trump issued an executive order to increase tariffs on India. The statement emphasized that imposing extra duties on imports from India is both appropriate and necessary, citing concerns that India continues to import oil from Russia both directly and indirectly.
This move comes a day after President Trump announced that further tariffs would be imposed on India within the next 24 hours. In his message, Trump criticized India as not being a good trading partner and highlighted India’s ongoing purchase of Russian oil, which he claimed is fueling the war machine in Ukraine.

Previously, Trump had already increased tariffs on India due to its purchases of Russian oil. On social media, he accused India not only of buying large quantities of Russian oil but also of profiting by reselling it. Trump further stated that India shows no concern for the casualties caused by Russian forces in Ukraine.
He concluded by warning that the tariffs on India would be increased even further because of these reasons.
