Minor Accident Turns Violent as Farooqi Assaults Motorcyclist
KARACHI – Businessman Salman Farooqi has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a young motorcyclist in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA), police confirmed on Monday, following widespread outrage sparked by a viral video of the incident.
The video, widely circulated on social media, shows Farooqi physically attacking the motorcyclist in the presence of several bystanders, including women. The footage triggered public condemnation and calls for legal action.
According to DIG South Asad Raza, Farooqi was taken into custody after a technical investigation, with police conducting raids at his home and office during the probe.
The case, registered at Gizri Police Station, includes charges of assault, issuing death threats, unlawful confinement, and public humiliation. The FIR was lodged by eyewitness Muhammad Saleem, a sales manager at a mobile phone company.
Saleem stated that he was at Ittehad Commercial for work when a minor road accident occurred involving the motorcyclist, who was accompanied by women. The situation escalated when Farooqi, allegedly angered by the incident, exited his vehicle and began assaulting the motorcyclist.
The complainant further claimed that Farooqi and his security guard forcibly confined the victim inside a vehicle at gunpoint, subjecting him to verbal abuse, threats, and physical violence. Despite the pleas of the accompanying women, Farooqi reportedly pushed them aside and continued the assault.
