Prominent Global Experts Attend CISS Conference on Nuclear Deterrence

RAWALPINDI, April 22, 2025: The Center for International Strategic Studies (CISS), Islamabad, successfully hosted a two-day International Conference titled “Nuclear Deterrence in the Age of Emerging Technologies,” bringing together leading scholars and experts from around the globe to engage in constructive dialogue on global strategic issues and share Pakistan’s policy perspectives.

The conference was inaugurated by General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, NI (M), Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, who served as the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, General Mirza emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to fostering continued dialogue and cooperation in addressing the challenges posed by emerging technologies. He further stressed that peace and stability in South Asia could only be achieved through reciprocal measures for nuclear risk reduction and ensuring a balance within the broader geostrategic framework.

The event was attended by prominent scholars and experts from prestigious institutions, including the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), National Institute for Deterrence Studies (NIDS), Australia, Ploughshare Foundation, Canada, China Arms Control and Disarmament Association (CACDA), Peking University, China, and other renowned organizations such as the European Leadership Network (ELN), LSE School of Public Policy, Russia’s CENESS, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and SIPRI from Sweden, among others.

The conference provided a valuable platform for global thought leaders to discuss the evolving challenges in nuclear deterrence, the impact of emerging technologies, and the importance of international collaboration in ensuring global security and stability.
