Napier — Mohammad Abbas of New Zealand has set a new record for the fastest half-century on his debut in One Day International (ODI) cricket. The first match of the three-match ODI series between host New Zealand and Pakistan is being played today in Napier.

Pakistan’s captain, Mohammad Rizwan, won the toss and chose to bowl first, giving New Zealand the opportunity to bat.

In a remarkable performance, the 21-year-old Abbas scored a half-century off just 24 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 3 fours to reach the milestone. His explosive batting set the stage for an exciting contest as New Zealand aimed to set a challenging total against Pakistan.
