KARACHI – The All Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association has announced the closure of petrol pumps nationwide on March 4 in protest against the government’s deregulation policy. The association expressed concerns about not being consulted on the policy and emphasized that if their grievances are not addressed during a crucial meeting with Federal Minister Musadik Malik, the closure will continue indefinitely.
Raza Abbas, a leader of the Central Executive Committee, stated that while they are willing to support Minister Malik for the success of the deregulation policy, proper consultation is essential. He also called for the deregulation to cover the entire oil sector, not just fuel prices.
Abbas further clarified that their association has no affiliation with Abdul Sami Khan, chairman of the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association. He noted that their association is officially registered with the Ministry of Commerce, while the registration of the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association has been canceled.
