Hridoy’s Ton in Vain as Shami’s Five-For Sinks Bangladesh

Dubai-Mohammad Shami’s five-wicket haul (5-53) led India to bowl out Bangladesh for 228 in the second Champions Trophy 2025 match at the Dubai stadium on Thursday.

In the second match of Champions Trophy 2025 encounter, Bangladesh – despite in perilous spot early as they lost half of their side for just 35 runs – gave India 229-run target.

Bangladesh were quick to recover after losing five wickets for just 35 courtesy Towhid Hridoy ‘s fighting spirit which earned him a century.

Jaker Ali also contributed with 68 runs and he fell on a good bowl by Mohammad Shami who was the pick of the bowlers with five wickets. Harshat Rana and Axar Patel took three and two wickets respectively.

Earlier, Bangladesh Skipper Najmul Hassan Shanto elected to bat first after winning the toss at the Dubai Stadium.

India have rested Arshadeep Singh and have decided to rely on Harshit Rana, and have also rested Varun Chakravarthy to bring Kuldeep Yadav in the playing XI. Star-batter and entertainer Rishabh Pant would also sit in the dugout as KL Rahul makes it in the final eleven.

Bangladesh have also decided not to take the services of young pacer Nahid Rana and have opted for the left-arm pro Mustafizur Rahman in the important match.

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto has issued a strong statement ahead of his team’s highly anticipated clash against India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 opener on February 20.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Shanto exuded confidence in Bangladesh’s ability to challenge any opponent, particularly highlighting their improved pace attack.

“I think we have always struggled with our seam attack, but in the last couple of years, we have developed some quality fast bowlers,” Shanto remarked.

Renowned Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle on Thursday lavished his praise on Bangladesh batter Towhid Hridoy for notching his maiden century against India in the second match of the Champions Trophy at the Dubai stadium.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Bhogle acknowledged the batting prowess of Hridoy, saying, “Been hearing about Towhid Hridoy for a couple of years. Now and frankly, he hadn’t done all that much.

“Showed his class today,” he said.
