PTI Worker Arrested in London for Threatening Sharif Family

LONDON: A Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) worker, Gulfam Hussain Kayani, has been arrested in London after allegedly threatening the Sharif family, including Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and other prominent individuals.

Kayani, who is a vocal supporter of PTI, made threatening remarks against the Sharif brothers, as well as Army Chief General Asim Munir, in a series of TikTok live videos. In these videos, he not only issued threats to the Sharif family but also made inflammatory comments about the Avenfield Apartments, even threatening to destroy them.

The videos, filmed outside both the Avenfield Apartments and Shahbaz Sharif’s residence, showed Gulfam Kayani sharing his hostile messages on social media. He also threatened to publicly humiliate Shahbaz and Nawaz Sharif by dragging them through the streets of London.

PML-N leader Khurram Butt took swift action by collecting evidence from these videos and submitting them to the police. Based on this evidence, Gulfam Hussain Kayani was arrested near the Avenfield Apartments.

London police have confirmed the arrest and are investigating the threats, which were taken seriously in light of the specific and public nature of the statements. Khurram Butt, who initiated the complaint, emphasized that Kayani’s actions could have posed a threat to the safety and security of the Sharif family in the UK.

Sources close to Kayani have stated that his phone is currently off, and he remains unreachable. However, they argue that Gulfam has always been involved in peaceful protests and that his arrest may be politically motivated.

This arrest follows earlier incidents where PTI supporters in London attempted to block a vehicle belonging to the former chief justice, causing further concern over the political tensions being brought into the UK.

The situation has raised questions about the extent to which political disputes are affecting diplomatic and personal security matters abroad, especially in the case of prominent Pakistani politicians and their families.
