Jason Gillespie Resigns as Head Coach, Aqib Javed Appointed Interim Red-Ball Coach

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan cricket team’s head coach, Jason Gillespie, has resigned from his position, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed his departure. Following Gillespie’s resignation, the PCB has appointed Aqib Javed as the interim head coach for the red-ball format. Javed, who is also serving as the interim head coach for the white-ball format, will take charge of the team for the upcoming Test series against South Africa.

Aqib Javed’s first assignment will be the two-match Test series against South Africa, with the first Test scheduled to take place from December 26 to 30 at Supersport Park in Centurion. The second Test will be held from January 3 to 7 at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town. Currently, the Pakistani team is in South Africa for a three-match T20 series, followed by a three-match ODI series.

Earlier reports indicated that Jason Gillespie had refused to travel to South Africa. He was supposed to arrive in the country to oversee the pre-Test camp but decided against it after the PCB did not extend the contract of the red-ball coach, Tim Nielsen. Sources revealed that Gillespie cited personal reasons for his refusal to travel.

The PCB had previously made the decision not to offer Gillespie any future responsibilities, following a pattern similar to that of Gary Kirsten, as Gillespie chose to resign ahead of time.
