Judicial Appointment Process Overhauled to Ensure Transparency
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon Hails 26th Constitutional Amendment,
Karachi-(Asad Ali Shah)-Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has hailed the 26th constitutional amendment as a significant step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in the judicial appointment process. Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Memon emphasized that the amendment will prevent arbitrary judgments and ensure the authority of parliament to remove judges. He also praised Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for uniting all parties to pass the amendment, despite having sufficient numbers to pass it alone.
Memon highlighted that the new system is not novel and is already practiced globally, citing countries like the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, the United States, and South Africa, where judges are appointed by the government on the advice of the judiciary ¹. He criticized the Supreme Court for failing to maintain equal representation of provinces and noted that Chief Justice of Sindh Ahmed Ali Sheikh was elevated to a junior judge by supersession.
The Senior Minister also announced a strict ban on private vehicles using number plates or tinted glasses of vehicles used by forces, effective November 1. Additionally, displaying weapons in plain clothes will be prohibited, and action will be taken against violators, regardless of influence.
Memon condemned the misbehavior of PTI supporters towards Justice Retired Qazi Faiz Isa in London, labeling it as mafia-like. He shared his personal experience as a victim of Justice Saqib Nisar’s atrocities and emphasized the importance of respectful behavior.
Furthermore, Memon accused the Israeli lobby and the Goldsmith family of conspiring to weaken Pakistan through lobbying efforts ¹. He criticized PTI’s reliance on lobbying, stating it defames Pakistan and benefits no one else in the US.
In response to questions, Memon emphasized that no one is above the law and condemned disrespecting individuals who don’t act according to one’s wishes. He also expressed regret over the trolling of a respectable woman’s child’s death in an accident and urged leaders to unite the nation.
Lastly, Memon reaffirmed Sindh’s commitment to protecting its right to water and promoting respect for the law.
