Islamabad and Rawalpindi Enjoy Rain, but Brace for More Stormy Weather

Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and nearby regions have been experiencing continuous rainfall since yesterday, providing a welcome break from the heat in the twin cities. However, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of more stormy weather in Islamabad today, forecasting thunderstorms, strong winds, and rain, with potential hail in certain areas.

Intermittent rain has been falling in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Taxila since late last night, leading to pleasant weather conditions. Unfortunately, the heavy rainfall has resulted in waterlogging on several streets and roads, along with reports of fallen trees.

So far, over 120 millimeters of rain have been recorded in the twin cities. This downpour has caused more than 40 feeders to trip, resulting in power outages in various areas. The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and other relevant organizations are on high alert to respond to any emergencies.

The PMD predicts thunderstorms and rain, along with gusty winds, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern and central Punjab, the Potohar region, Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Heavy rain and hail are expected in parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Punjab, the Potohar region, Islamabad, and Kashmir, while the rest of the country will likely face hot and humid conditions.

The National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has issued a warning of strong winds and thunderstorms in several regions of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir from September 26 to October 1, 2024.
