LAHORE: Lahore Zoo management has released hundreds of fish in its lake to eradicate dengue mosquitoes and their larvae to control the spread of the disease, here on Monday.
As per the details, Zoo director Zahid Iqbal Sheikh and other officials released the tilapia and other fish into the lake.
The director said that fish have the ability to eat green algae and mosquitoes, which provides an eco-friendly solution to this problem.
He said that this initiative would not only help eliminate dengue mosquitoes from the lake but also reduce green algae, adding that such activities would improve water quality.
Sheikh hoped that the zoo would also attract tourists to see the fish, adding that they have also been released in fountains and waterfalls to ensure the eradication of mosquitoes.

After three new cases were confirmed on August 25, the total number of dengue cases so far has risen to 299.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif also met with the authorities to discuss measures to deal with dengue fever in the province.
