Reduction in Membership as FATA Seats Cease to Exist; By-elections Set for March 14
Islamabad: The terms of 52 Senate members, including prominent figures like Chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, Deputy Chairman Mirza Afridi, Leader of the House Ishaq Dar, Leader of the Opposition Dr. Shahzad Waseem, and Senator Raza Rabbani, reached their conclusion on Monday.
The merger of the four FATA seats into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa brings about a significant change, eliminating those seats and reducing the total Senate membership from 100 to 96. Notable senators from various political parties, such as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), and National Party, saw the end of their terms on Monday.
Among those retiring are senators supported by Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), and Pakistan Muslim League-F (PML-F), including figures like Moula Bux Chandio, Farogh Naseem, Dr. Musadik Malik, Faisal Javed, Azam Khan Swati, Muhammad Asad Ali Khan Junejo, and Mushahid Hussain Sayed representing Islamabad.

Following the general elections, six vacant Senate seats await by-elections scheduled for March 14. This shift in the Upper House dynamics marks a pivotal moment in Pakistan’s political landscape.
