11 Sikhs Injured in Violent Gurdwara Clash in Germany

Gurdwara Clash Germany: Knives, Kirpans and Gunshot Inside Moers Sikh Temple Shocks the World

Germany – (Web Desk) – A shocking act of violence has shaken the Sikh community in Europe. At least 11 Sikhs were injured after a brutal clash broke out inside a gurdwara in Moers, Duisburg area of Germany. The incident has left the community deeply disturbed and triggered a massive police response.

Violent scenes unfolded inside Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Moers when two groups of worshippers turned against each other. Videos circulating on social media show a fierce confrontation involving knives, kirpans, and pepper spray — right inside the sacred place of worship. Around 40 people were involved in the clash, turning a place of peace into a battleground.

Eyewitnesses reported that a pistol was fired during the altercation. German newspaper Bild confirmed that the incident prompted a large-scale police operation, including the deployment of special tactical units and a helicopter. Over 100 officers were rushed to the scene. Although no gunman was found inside, shell casings recovered suggest a blank-firing pistol may have been used.

A 56-year-old congregation member who witnessed the violence told Bild the attack appeared pre-planned. He said attackers arrived with pepper spray ready and opened fire shortly before prayers began. Many frightened devotees fled the temple barefoot in panic.

Investigators believe the clash was rooted in a bitter power struggle over gurdwara management. Former and current board members had long-standing disagreements over election results and control of donation funds (golak). The dispute reportedly escalated to the point of physical violence on the day of the incident.

All 11 injured received immediate medical treatment at the scene. Police detained at least one suspect and launched a full investigation to identify others involved. The firearm used has not yet been recovered.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from Sikh organizations across the world, with religious leaders calling it a betrayal of Sikh values and a disgrace to the sanctity of the Gurdwara.
