Zardari will be President , Shehbaz to become PM as PPP, PML-N to form govt

Islamabad_After rounds of negotiations and discussions, the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have reached a comprehensive power-sharing agreement, heralding a new chapter in the country’s political landscape.

Under the terms of the agreement, Asif Zardari, the seasoned leader of the PPP, will ascend to the presidency, marking a significant return to national leadership for the party.

In another key development, the position of Chairman Senate will be entrusted to the People’s Party, underscoring their growing influence in the upper echelons of government.

Moreover, the presidency, a symbol of national authority, will also be vested in the hands of the PPP, reaffirming their pivotal role in shaping the country’s future trajectory.

Conversely, the prestigious position of Prime Minister will be held by the PML-N, reflecting their enduring prominence in Pakistani politics and governance.

In a bid to ensure regional representation and inclusivity, the post of Chief Minister of Balochistan will be allocated to the PPP, empowering them to address the province’s unique challenges and aspirations.

peaking at the press conference, PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif said the PML-N will support Asif Ali Zardari to become the president of Pakistan.

He said the PPP and PML-N are in a position to form a coalition government, adding Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), MQMP and PMLQ are their allies.

He said the coalition government will be run with the consultation of its allies, adding the joint the government will ensure prosperity and economic stability in the country.

Shehbaz Sharif said they had asked the PTI-backed independent candidates to form the government, if they had required numbers for the formation of a new government, adding the PML-N asked them that the party was ready to sit on opposition benches, if the independents formed the government.

Addressing the joint press conference, PPP Cochairman Asif Ali Zardari said the coalition government was going to be established because none of the party had a simple majority to form the government.

Our goal is to lead Pakistan out of its challenges.

Prime Minister-designate Shehbaz Sharif expressed appreciation for the attending journalists, extending thanks to President Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto for their contributions to the crucial occasion.

Sharif mentioned the message sent to independent members, encouraging them to form the government with enthusiasm, showcasing their majority to the nation. He assured wholehearted acceptance and congratulations in such a scenario.

He underscored the importance of effective governance, stating that the opposition, despite alliances, lacks the necessary numbers to lead the government.

The PML-N president mentioned that the committee, formed in collaboration with the PPP, engaged in multiple rounds of discussions, and each session yielded positive outcomes. Today, as we sit here, I am pleased to share that, alongside the PPP, we have the necessary majority, positioning us to establish a new government. I extend my gratitude to Asif Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto for their unwavering cooperation, and I am also thankful to Nawaz Sharif for his leadership and guidance, making this achievement possible.

Recognizing the significant challenges Pakistan is currently confronting, before delving into those discussions, I would like to emphasize that this alliance has collectively decided, with the grace of Almighty God, that we possess the required majority to unanimously elect Asif Zardari as the president. I express my appreciation to other coalition parties in this alliance, including MQM, IPP, and Q-League.

Sharif emphasized that all our allies are not only committed to voting for these positions but also to taking unified steps through consultation. The challenges facing our nation today are immense.

He said, “The resurgence of terrorism has claimed the lives of countless brothers and sisters in KP and Balochistan, including the valiant forces of Pakistan and as an alliance, we must confront this menace head-on.”

“Furthermore, we are resolved to combat inflation and revitalize the economy, fostering increased domestic production for sustainable economic growth and prosperity nationwide. Our objective is to provide modern educational opportunities to the younger generation, equipping them with expertise in information technology,” he said adding that this will enable them to become the architects of our nation’s future, securing employment opportunities not only within Pakistan but also abroad, thereby contributing significantly to the country’s development.

The president of PML-N also emphasized that after 76 years, it is concerning that countries are still burdened by debt. This issue must be addressed urgently, and we must dedicate ourselves tirelessly to this cause. These challenges demand a journey of sacrifice and dedication. It is not merely about acquiring government positions or ministries; rather, it is about saving Pakistan from its current difficulties and setting it on the path to prosperity.
