WhatsApp’s new animated speech bubble sparks mixed reactions among users

Many have taken to social media to voice their concerns, with some describing the animation as “distracting” and “unnecessary.”

ISLAMABAD: WhatsApp’s latest update, which introduces a new animated speech bubble in place of the traditional “typing…” indicator, has triggered mixed reactions across social media. While some users welcome the change, others are expressing frustration, with a few even reporting feelings of anxiety triggered by the new feature.

The update, which resembles the typing animation seen in Apple’s iMessage, replaces the static “typing…” notification that previously appeared at the top of chat windows. Now, a moving speech bubble appears beneath the last message in the conversation, providing a more dynamic indication that someone is typing.

However, the shift has not been well-received by all users. Many have taken to social media to voice their concerns, with some describing the animation as “distracting” and “unnecessary.” One user even remarked that it “purposely gives me anxiety,” while others criticized the update as “annoying” and “unhelpful.”

Despite the backlash, WhatsApp is set to roll out the update to all users in the near future. A few users have voiced their approval, with some praising the change. One user tweeted, “WhatsApp finally moved the ‘typing’ notification to where it belongs, below the chat,” while another added, “I like the new typing indicator.”

This update follows a similar controversy earlier this year when WhatsApp capitalized the “Online” and “Typing” labels under users’ names, sparking complaints from users who found the bold text jarring.
