WASHINGTON: (Web Desk) – The United States men’s national soccer team suffered a heavy 5-2 defeat against Belgium national football team in a friendly match, raising concerns ahead of the upcoming World Cup they will co-host this summer.
Managed by Mauricio Pochettino, the US side initially showed promise by taking an early lead through Weston McKennie, who thrilled a packed crowd in Atlanta. However, the advantage was short-lived as Belgium quickly took control of the game.
Belgium responded emphatically, with goals from Zeno Debast, Amadou Onana, and Charles De Ketelaere, while Dodi Lukebakio added two more to complete a dominant performance.

The US managed a late consolation through Patrick Agyemang, but the overall result exposed gaps in the team’s ability to compete with top European sides.
Pochettino described the defeat as a “reality check,” stressing that the timing offers an opportunity to improve before the tournament begins. Meanwhile, star forward Christian Pulisic acknowledged the need for both individual and team improvement following the loss.
The United States will next face Portugal national football team in another high-profile friendly before Pochettino names his final squad in May.
