Dallas: USA Storms to Victory in T20 World Cup Opener Against Canada. The United States kicked off their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a dominant seven-wicket victory over Canada at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Saturday.

After winning the toss, the USA opted to field, restricting Canada to 194/5. Navneet Dhaliwal (61) and Nicholas Kirton (51) provided the foundation for Canada’s innings, with Shreyas Movva adding a late flourish with an unbeaten 32.

Chasing 195, the USA openers stumbled early, losing both Steven Taylor (0) and Monank Patel (16) cheaply. However, Andries Gous (65) and Aaron Jones (94*) combined for a match-winning partnership of 131 runs, guiding the hosts to victory in just 17.4 overs. Jones’ blistering knock included four fours and a staggering ten sixes.

This win marks a significant moment for the USA, who are co-hosting the T20 World Cup alongside the West Indies. It also reignites their historic rivalry with Canada, as the first-ever international cricket match was played between these two nations in 1844.

Both the USA and Canada are placed in Group A of the tournament, alongside India, Pakistan, and Ireland.
