A US aircraft carrier strike group has moved into the Middle East, aiming to increase pressure on Iran, while President Donald Trump emphasized that diplomacy is still on the table.
A US official told NHK on Monday that the USS Abraham Lincoln, along with supporting warships, is operating under the US Central Command, which oversees military operations across the Middle East.

Also on Monday, US news website Axios carried an interview with Trump in which he said that “we have a big armada next to Iran.” But Trump also said: “They want to make a deal. I know so. They called on numerous occasions.”

Trump said last week that a massive fleet was moving toward Iran, following deadly protests in the country. At the same time, Trump had said he would “rather not see anything happen.”
