Ambassador Munir Akram Offers Congratulations and Cooperation for the 79th Session

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Munir Akram, met with the newly elected President of the 193-member UN General Assembly, Philemon Yang of Cameroon, to discuss the agenda for the 79th session of the Assembly. The meeting took place at the UN headquarters in New York, where Ambassador Akram extended Pakistan’s full support to President Yang for the upcoming session.

Ambassador Akram began the meeting by congratulating President Yang on his recent appointment as the President of the UN General Assembly for its current session. This role places Yang at the helm of the Assembly, which is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations responsible for deliberating and making decisions on international issues.

During the meeting, Ambassador Akram welcomed President Yan’s focus on sustainable economic growth, peace and security and human dignity, which are the fundamental pillars of the UN Charter, amid multiple complex crises facing the world, a press release of the Pakistan Mission said,
He expressed Pakistan’s hope that the United Nations will succeed in addressing the global challenges under his wise leadership.

In his message of congratulations, Ambassador Akram expressed Pakistan’s commitment to cooperating with President Yang and supporting the work of the General Assembly throughout its 79th session. His gesture of goodwill underscores Pakistan’s dedication to fostering effective dialogue and collaboration within the UN framework.

President Yang, in response to Ambassador Akram’s kind words, expressed his gratitude for the warm felicitations and the support extended by Pakistan. Yang’s appreciation was publicly shared in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, where he wrote, “Grateful for the opportunity to meet with Ambassador Munir Akram, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN. Appreciate the support extended on the work of the 79th session and the upcoming High-Level Week.”
