UMT Hosts Conference on Traditional and Non-Traditional Threats with Pakistan Navy War College

LAHORE (News Desk): The University of Management and Technology (UMT), in collaboration with the Pakistan Navy War College, successfully organized a two-day international conference titled “Traditional and Non-Traditional Threats in a Transforming World.
The Chief Guest of the conference was Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz, Chief of Staff Pakistan Navy, while former provincial minister and President UMT, Ibrahim Hasan Murad, graced the occasion as a distinguished guest.
The conference brought together eminent scholars and defense experts including Provost UMT Dr. Asghar Zaidi, Lt. Gen. (R) Javed Hassan, Prof. Dr. Saeed Shafqat, DG Ahmad Abdullah, Prof. Abid Sherwani and Dr. Usman Askari, Chairperson, Department of Political Science and International Relations.
Earlier, Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz also held a special meeting with President UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad, where they discussed matters of national security, education, and mutual cooperation. Later, both dignitaries planted a sapling at the UMT ground as a symbol of growth and sustainability.

Addressing the participants, Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz congratulated UMT, the Maritime Center of Excellence, and Pakistan Navy War College on the successful organization of the conference.
He urged students and young professionals to confront the challenges of an increasingly digital and interconnected world with determination and integrity. He emphasized that true patriotism extends beyond military service and lies in professional excellence, honesty, and sincere contributions to national development.
President UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad expressed gratitude to Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz for his presence and lauded the courage and sacrifices of Pakistan’s Armed Forces in defending the nation. He highlighted the vital role of the Pakistan Navy in ensuring national security, noting that nearly 90% of Pakistan’s trade depends on the Arabian Sea.
Murad further stated that addressing emerging non-traditional threats requires intellectual preparedness, regional cooperation, and strong institutional strategies. He added that the people of Pakistan—especially the youth—stand united with the Armed Forces to resolutely counter all hostile elements.
Provost UMT Dr. Asghar Zaidi welcomed the participants and briefed them about UMT’s vision and achievements. He said that the purpose of the conference was to explore new academic and intellectual dimensions while enhancing youth awareness of emerging security challenges in a global context.
Lt. Gen. (R) Javed Hassan shed light on the current challenges to national security and shared valuable insights on ways to strengthen Pakistan’s defense posture.
Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, in his online address, also discussed various aspects of the conference and proposed practical solutions to contemporary national and regional challenges.
The ceremony concluded with President UMT Ibrahim Hasan Murad presenting souvenirs to Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz and other distinguished guests in recognition of their participation and contribution.
