Islamabad(Staff Reporter);UK Trains Pakistani Officers to Combat Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking, The UK Border Force’s Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Teams visited Pakistan to deliver crucial training on identifying and safeguarding victims of modern slavery and human trafficking. The training, held at Islamabad and Lahore airports, equipped 31 frontline officers with the skills to recognize and support vulnerable individuals.
The UK and Pakistan are working together to combat modern slavery and human trafficking, with cooperation being essential in tackling this global issue. The training covered topics such as forced and early marriages, honor-based abuse, and female genital mutilation.
Amanda Read, Border Force National Operational lead for Safeguarding and Modern Slavery, emphasized the importance of cooperation and sharing best practices. Jane Marriott, British High Commissioner, stressed that early identification of victims is crucial, and international cooperation is vital in tackling this global problem.

The training comes ahead of ‘World Day Against Trafficking in Persons’ on July 30, highlighting the need for continued efforts to eradicate modern slavery and human trafficking. Pakistan ranks 4th in Asia Pacific for modern slavery risks, and 18th globally, making this cooperation a significant step towards protecting vulnerable individuals.
