UK and Spain oppose US plan to blockade Hormuz Strait

LONDON: (Web Desk) – UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has made it clear that Britain will not participate in the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz announced by Donald Trump.

In a statement to BBC Radio, Starmer emphasized that the UK does not support the move and does not intend to become involved in a wider conflict with Iran, signaling a cautious approach amid rising tensions.

Meanwhile, Spain has also voiced strong criticism of the proposed blockade. Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles described the move as illogical, saying it contributes to an already worsening geopolitical situation.

She warned that such actions risk further escalating tensions in the region, calling it part of a broader downward spiral in international relations.

The differing responses from key US allies highlight growing divisions among Western nations over how to handle the escalating crisis involving Iran and the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
