UAE Reaffirms Support for BRICS Expansion and Global South Cooperation at 17th Summit
Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Leads UAE Delegation at 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil
RIO DE JANEIRO: Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, led the United Arab Emirates (UAE) delegation at the 17th BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The summit, inaugurated by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, was convened under the theme “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance.”
Representing UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince conveyed greetings to the attending heads of state and governments of BRICS nations, invited countries, and international organizations. He expressed the UAE’s commitment to fostering balanced and constructive international partnerships based on mutual respect, development, and cooperation.
In his address, Sheikh Khaled underscored BRICS’ growing role as a vital platform for addressing pressing global challenges, including economic instability, humanitarian crises, and rising geopolitical tensions. He emphasized that sustainable development and shared prosperity form the cornerstone of strong international partnerships.
Reaffirming the UAE’s dedication to global stability, Sheikh Khaled highlighted the importance of economic integration and constructive dialogue. He also reiterated the UAE’s support for the expansion of BRICS to further enhance global strategic cooperation and representation.
A high-level dialogue session was held during the summit, focusing on key issues such as reforming global governance, promoting local currency use in trade, advancing climate finance, transitioning to green economies, and ensuring the responsible development of artificial intelligence.
The session also stressed greater cooperation in food security, health, and technology, reaffirming BRICS’ commitment to inclusive and sustainable development across the Global South.

This marks the UAE’s second participation in a BRICS summit since joining the group, which was established in 2009 to strengthen political and economic ties among emerging economies.
