ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday beat Afghanistan by 181 runs in their inaugural match of the 2024 International Cricket Council (ICC) U19 World Cup held in East London, South Africa.
Opting to bat first, Pakistan posted a total of 284 for the loss of nine wickets.
The highlight of the innings was Shahzaib Khan’s outstanding display, as he notched up an impressive 106 runs. Shahzaib’s resilient knock spanned 126 balls and featured an array of skillful shots, including 10 boundaries and three sixes, attaining a commendable strike rate of 84.12.

The team captain, Saad Baig, played a pivotal role in the batting lineup, contributing a noteworthy 55 runs. His innings, characterised by a brisk strike rate of 105.76, comprised 3 boundaries and an impressive 4 sixes, adding valuable runs to the team’s total.
Additionally, Riaz Ullah’contribution of 46 runs and Ubaid Shah’s impactful 22-run cameo further bolstered Pakistan’s innings.
