Trump’s Former Aide Calls for Imran Khan’s Release, Draws Parallels to Trump’s Legal Battles

Grenell Defends Imran Khan, Compares Corruption Allegations to Trump’s Legal Battles

WASHINGTON: Richard Grenell, former US envoy for special missions, has urged the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan during an interview with an American television channel. Grenell, who served under former President Donald Trump, compared Khan to Trump, describing both as unconventional politicians who faced similar legal challenges.

Grenell criticized the corruption allegations against Khan, likening them to the baseless accusations Trump faced during his presidency. He emphasized that relations between the United States and Pakistan improved during the Trump administration, particularly when Khan was leading Pakistan.

Highlighting Khan’s continued status as an unconventional leader, Grenell called for his immediate release from prison, asserting that the charges against Khan mirrored those imposed on Trump. He also referenced a recent ambiguous statement from US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller, interpreting it as a call for Khan’s release.
