Trump Under Pressure on Iran War After Republicans Lose Congress

Republicans lose both the House and the Senate as voters blame high fuel prices and the Iran conflict, leaving the president with few good options.

Trump – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – Trump under pressure on Iran war after his party suffered heavy losses in Tuesday’s midterm elections. Democrats won both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

The US president admitted on Wednesday that the war was partly to blame. He said it is “largely true” that Iran and high fuel prices hurt his party at the polls.

Even so, Trump said he would “do it again.” He gave a similar answer on election night.

Vice President JD Vance was more direct. “The reason we lost is the war,” he wrote on X. He added that the president had said so himself.

Analysts say Trump is now in a tough spot. Sina Toossi of the Centre for International Policy said more attacks offer no clear path to victory. He warned that escalation could further damage the presidency, while talks offer a possible way out.

Voters sent a clear message, Toossi said. They want relief from the war’s costs, not more fighting.

The conflict began with US-Israel strikes on Iran in late February. Tehran replied by blocking the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for world energy. Oil prices then jumped.

Farmers feel the pain too. Charles Hall of the North Carolina Soybean Producers Association said high energy costs are leading to despair. He believes many farmers voted against high diesel prices.

James Lindsay of the Council on Foreign Relations said the loss goes beyond Iran. He called it a rejection of much of Trump’s agenda. Trump won in 2024 by promising to make life more affordable, yet many Americans feel it has become harder.

Democrats are already speaking up. Senate leader Chuck Schumer said the war “must end.” Hakeem Jeffries, likely the next House Speaker, shared that view. The new Congress will also gain more power over oversight and funding from January.

Lindsay warned that new heavy strikes could backfire. Iran might hit sites across the Gulf, and things could spiral out of control. Still, he said Trump’s other choices are not good either.

The US naval blockade is also straining the military, and talks have shown little progress.

Trump also backed Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth. “He’s doing a very good job,” he told reporters. This is different from George W. Bush, who fired Donald Rumsfeld right after the 2006 midterms. However, sources say Trump could still replace Hegseth.
