Trump Signals He Wouldn’t Oppose Israeli Control Over Gaza

US President Distances Himself from Israel’s Possible Full-Scale Offensive

US President-Isreal-Palistine-(Special/Webdesk)-Trump Says Gaza Occupation ‘Up to Israel’ as Humanitarian Concerns Mount

Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that the decision to occupy the entire Gaza Strip lies solely with Israel, distancing himself from growing international concern over potential full-scale Israeli control of the territory.

Speaking to reporters, Trump emphasized that his current focus is on delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza’s starving population. He declined to address Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s alleged plans to fully reoccupy the enclave, saying, “As far as the rest of it, I really can’t say. That’s going to be pretty much up to Israel.”

His remarks have drawn concern as Israel’s war on Gaza — ongoing since October 2023 — has already displaced millions and left much of the region in ruins.

UN Warns of Potential Catastrophe

Top United Nations officials are warning that a full-scale Israeli occupation could trigger a humanitarian disaster. Miroslav Jenca, the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia, and the Americas, told the Security Council that a reoccupation of Gaza “would risk catastrophic consequences.”

He stressed the importance of preserving Gaza as an essential part of any future Palestinian state under international law.

Occupation Debate Rekindled Amid Ongoing War

Although Israel withdrew troops and settlers from Gaza in 2005, analysts and human rights experts have long argued that the territory remains under de facto occupation, due to Israel’s strict control over its borders, airspace, and coastline.

Since the start of the 2023 war, several Israeli right-wing leaders have pushed for the reestablishment of settlements and a permanent military presence in Gaza — a move widely condemned as a violation of international law.

Netanyahu has also floated proposals widely interpreted as attempts at ethnic cleansing, including the removal of Gaza’s Palestinian population. In February, Trump appeared to support this vision, suggesting Gaza could be transformed into a luxury resort-style “riviera of the Middle East.”

Death Toll Soars, Food Crisis Worsens

More than 61,000 people have reportedly been killed in Gaza since the start of the conflict, with large swaths of the territory destroyed. Widespread hunger is intensifying, with numerous reports of civilians being shot while attempting to reach aid.

Despite the worsening humanitarian situation, the U.S. continues to provide military aid to Israel — with reports indicating increased support since the conflict began. Meanwhile, international humanitarian assistance faces severe restrictions and delays.

Trump claimed Tuesday that the U.S. has sent $60 million worth of food aid to Gaza and commended Israel for assisting in its distribution. However, aid access remains extremely limited, and numerous reports suggest convoys are being blocked or targeted.
