Trump mocks Macron at private lunch, claims his wife treats him badly
Trump Mocks Macron at Private Lunch and Questions NATO's Loyalty Amid Iran War
Trump – (Web Desk) – Trump had some fun at France’s expense on Wednesday. He made jokes about French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife during a private lunch. The comments came as he complained that NATO allies refused to join the US war against Iran.
A video of the lunch was posted on the White House YouTube channel but was quickly taken down.
Trump said he called Macron to ask for help. But not before throwing in a jab. “Macron, whose wife treats him extremely badly,” Trump told the crowd. “Still recovering from the right to the jaw.” The room laughed.
He was talking about an old video from May 2025. It seemed to show Brigitte Macron pushing her husband’s face during a trip to Vietnam. Macron said the video was fake. Part of a disinformation campaign.
Trump then told everyone what he asked Macron. He said he requested French warships to help in the Gulf. He even put on a fake French accent to act out Macron’s reply. “No no no, we cannot do that Donald. We can do that after the war is won.”

Trump wasn’t happy with that answer. “I don’t need it after the war is won, Emmanuel,” he shot back.
He then turned his frustration toward NATO as a whole. He said NATO would not show up when it really mattered. “NATO won’t be there if we ever have the big one,” he warned. He did not explain what he meant by that.

He also called NATO a “paper tiger.” That is nothing new. Trump and his team have been taking shots at the alliance since he came back to the White House last year.
The day before, Secretary of State Marco Rubio piled on too. He said the US would need to take a hard look at its relationship with NATO once the Iran war wraps up.
