Trump fires Attorney General Bondi, names Todd Blanche acting replacement

Bondi out, Blanche in: What led to Trump's latest Cabinet shakeup

Whitehouse – (Web Desk) – President Donald Trump fired Attorney General Pam Bondi on Thursday, April 2. A White House official confirmed the news the same day.

This is the second time Trump has removed a senior Cabinet member in under a month.

Following Bondi’s dismissal, Trump quickly picked Todd Blanche to step in as acting attorney general. Blanche is no stranger to Trump. He served as Trump’s personal criminal defense lawyer before taking a government role.

During Trump’s first term, Blanche stood by him through several high profile legal battles and indictments.

After the firing, Trump took to Truth Social to speak kindly of his outgoing attorney general. He wrote that Pam Bondi is “a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend.”

The president and Bondi had a heated confrontation at the White House last week, according to two sources.

Trump was dissatisfied because Bondi had not “executed on his vision” at the Justice Department, particularly on the speed at which she was prosecuting his critics and adversaries.

Over handling Epstein files, Bondi has also faced repeated criticism.

Trump supporters and Republican lawmakers accused her of concealing or mishandling the release of documents relating to the Justice Department’s investigation into sex trafficking involving the late financier.

This became a political headache for Trump as his past association with Epstein came under renewed scrutiny.
