Trump Announces 3-Day Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire — Is Peace Finally Near?
Trump – (Web Desk) – Trump Announces 3-Day Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire starting May 9 through May 11, giving the world a brief moment of hope after years of deadly conflict.
President Donald Trump shared the news on social media, saying all fighting will stop during these three days. He also confirmed that both sides will exchange 1,000 prisoners each. Trump called this a sign of progress, saying he hopes it marks “the beginning of the end” of this long and painful war.
This ceasefire lines up with Russia’s World War Two victory celebrations. A military parade is planned in Moscow’s Red Square during this period. Russia had already announced its own short truce from May 8 to 9 for the same occasion.
Ukraine also stepped up. Kyiv proposed its own open-ended ceasefire starting Tuesday midnight, asking Russia to do the same. However, both sides have blamed each other for breaking earlier ceasefires.
Peace talks, led by the US, are currently stuck. The main dispute is over Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region. Russia wants Ukrainian troops to pull back. Ukraine refuses to give up any land it still controls.
Ukraine’s chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, traveled to Miami to meet US officials and try to restart progress. Talks have been slow for months, but both sides appear to still be at the table.
The world watches and waits — hoping this three-day pause grows into something lasting.
