Tragic Death of Soldier Following Kidnapping by Terrorists in Anantnag

An Indian Army soldier was found dead with gunshot wounds after being abducted by terrorists during an anti-terror operation in the Pathribal forest area of Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir.

The soldier, identified as Hilal Ahmad Bhat, was discovered on October 9, a day after he and another soldier from the 161 unit of the Territorial Army were kidnapped while conducting a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police. While Bhat was tragically killed, the second soldier managed to escape, despite suffering two gunshot wounds, and is currently hospitalized in stable condition.

This incident raised security concerns in the region, occurring just a day after the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election results were announced. In response, a large-scale operation has been initiated to locate the terrorists involved in the abduction.

The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps indicated that the operation commenced based on intelligence information and continued overnight after one soldier was reported missing. This incident underscores the persistent security challenges in the area, where previous encounters have also resulted in the loss of security personnel.
