Tamim Iqbal Recovering After Heart Attack During Domestic Match

Shakib Al Hasan Asks for Prayers for Tamim Iqbal's Quick Recovery

DHAKA: Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal is recovering after suffering a major heart attack during a domestic match on Monday, cricket officials confirmed on Tuesday. The 36-year-old, who was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, experienced severe chest pain and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

According to club official Tariqul Islam, Tamim has regained consciousness and is now in stable condition. “He is now better. He talked to his family members and also walked briefly at the hospital,” Islam said.

Mohammedan Sporting Club’s physiotherapist, Enamul Haque, reported that Tamim’s condition is stable and he may be transferred to another medical facility soon. “We had to go to the hospital quickly to save his life, and luckily we did that,” Haque told AFP.

Medical director Razeeb Hasan, who oversaw Tamim’s treatment, revealed that the cricketer had to undergo surgery to implant stents and clear an artery blockage.

The news of Tamim’s health scare prompted an outpouring of support from the cricketing community. Long-time teammate Shakib Al Hasan took to social media, urging fans to pray for Tamim’s recovery. “Please pray that my brother Tamim recovers quickly and returns to the game!” he wrote.

Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh also sent his well-wishes, posting, “You’ve faced tough opponents before and come out stronger, this will be no different. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Stay strong.”

Tamim, who represented Bangladesh in 391 matches across all formats from 2007 to 2023, is the only Bangladeshi cricketer to have scored centuries in all three international formats, amassing more than 15,000 runs in his career.
