T20 World Cup: New Zealand thrash South Africa by 9 wickets to reach final
The second semifinal of the tournament will be played on Wednesday
Kolkata (Web Desk) In the first semifinal of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, New Zealand cruised into the final after defeating South Africa by nine wickets in a one-sided contest on Tuesday.
The match, played in Kolkata, saw New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner win the toss and elect to field first.
Batting first, South Africa posted 169 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Marco Jansen top-scored with an unbeaten 55. Dewald Brevis contributed 34, while Tristan Stubbs added 29 runs. For New Zealand, Matt Henry, James McConchie, and Rachin Ravindra claimed two wickets each.
In reply, New Zealand chased down the target in just 13 overs, losing only one wicket, thanks to explosive opening batsman Finn Allen. Allen smashed a breathtaking century off just 33 balls — the fastest in T20 World Cup history — hitting 10 fours and eight sixes.
Indian Media Claims PCB Set Conditions For India Match
Tim Seifert supported him with a brisk 58, while Rachin Ravindra remained unbeaten on 13.
The previous record for the fastest T20 World Cup century was held by Chris Gayle, who scored a hundred off 47 balls against England in 2016.
The second semifinal of the tournament will be played on Wednesday between India and England in Mumbai.
