NAGOYA: (Sports Desk) – Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by eight wickets in the women’s cricket semi-final at the Asian Games, securing their place in the final.

Batting first after being asked to set a target, Pakistan posted 177 runs for four wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Ayesha Zafar top-scored with 71 runs, while Shawaal Zulfiqar contributed 54 runs. The pair shared a crucial 115-run partnership for the third wicket.

Sri Lanka chased down the target of 178 runs in 17.5 overs, losing just two wickets.

Captain Chamari Athapaththu led the successful chase with an unbeaten 83, while Hasini Perera provided strong support with 42 runs.

The defeat ended Pakistan’s campaign for the Asian Games gold medal. India and Bangladesh will contest the second semi-final later today.

The winner of the second semi-final will meet Sri Lanka in the final, while Pakistan will play the losing side in the bronze-medal match.
