Spotify To Introduce AI Persona Labels For AI-Generated Artists
Spotify Adds New AI Labels Amid Growing Synthetic Music Concerns
STOCKHOLM: (News Desk) – Spotify will introduce a new “AI Persona” badge from mid-September to clearly identify music profiles featuring AI-generated personas rather than real human artists.
The streaming platform said Tuesday that listeners had expressed frustration over encountering artist profiles that appeared to represent real people, only to discover that the personas were created using artificial intelligence.
Spotify said the new labelling system is part of its broader effort to improve transparency over how music and artist identities on the platform are created.
The move comes as the music industry faces growing concerns about the rapid increase of AI-generated content and the potential impact of synthetic music on streaming platforms and artists.
In April, Spotify introduced its “Verified by Spotify” badge to indicate that an artist profile had undergone a review and met the platform’s authenticity standards.
Under the new system, Spotify said it would apply AI Persona badges to relevant profiles alongside artists who voluntarily disclose that they are AI-generated personas.
The company also said AI Personas would generally be excluded from both editorial and personalised recommendations. However, users who choose to follow an AI Persona could still receive recommendations involving that profile.
Spotify said the initiative is intended to give listeners greater clarity about the nature and origin of the artists they encounter on the platform.
