Special Helpline to Be Launched for WhatsApp Hacking Victims: NCCIA
Khurram Ali advised users to adopt security measures to protect their digital accounts.
ISLAMABAD: (News Desk) – The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has announced that a special helpline will soon be established to assist victims of WhatsApp hacking. The helpline will provide guidance and support for the recovery of hacked WhatsApp accounts.
Speaking to the media, NCCIA Director General Khurram Ali said that a public awareness campaign would also be launched in collaboration with Meta in local languages to educate citizens about protection against cyber fraud.
He said that cases of WhatsApp hacking had declined after campaigns encouraging users to enable two-step verification, but cybercriminals were now adopting new methods.
Khurram Ali noted that the growing use of the internet and mobile phones had led to an overall increase in online fraud and cybercrime. He added that several cybercrime groups operating in Pakistan had been arrested through international cooperation, while efforts were continuing to prevent misuse of one-time passwords (OTPs) through advanced technology.
The NCCIA chief urged citizens never to share OTP codes received on their mobile phones, warning that misuse of these codes is one of the main causes of WhatsApp and banking account hacks. He advised users to adopt security measures to protect their digital accounts.
