SNGPL disconnects 186 illegal gas connections, imposes Rs. 7 million in fines
Lahore: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has ramped up its efforts to curb gas theft across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad, leading to the disconnection of 186 illegal gas connections and the imposition of hefty fines totaling Rs. 7 million.
The regional operations were part of a coordinated crackdown aimed at tackling widespread gas theft, which has long affected the company’s ability to provide reliable service to its customers. In Lahore, SNGPL teams took swift action, disconnecting 21 illegal connections and an additional 4 for the illegal use of compressors, imposing fines of Rs. 2.88 million on offenders.
In Faisalabad, 7 illegal connections were severed, along with one related to compressor misuse. The company imposed fines of Rs. 60,000 in this region as part of its commitment to penalizing violators. Similarly, the Sheikhupura region saw 3 illegal connections disconnected, with fines totaling Rs. 3.7 million, the highest amount for any single region in this round of operations.
Other regions also saw significant enforcement action. In Gujranwala, 1 illegal connection was severed, while Bahawalpur witnessed the disconnection of 1 illegal connection and 18 related to compressor usage. Multan saw 14 illegal connections severed, with fines levied for 3 compressor-related violations. In Sahiwal, 2 illegal connections were disconnected with fines of Rs. 180,000 imposed.
However, the most substantial intervention occurred in the Karak region, where 111 illegal connections were disconnected, accompanied by fines of Rs. 100,000. SNGPL also registered six FIRs in Karak, taking legal action against those involved in gas theft.
