SNGPL crackdown: 136 connections disconnected, Rs 9 million in fines imposed
A fine of Rs 3.68 million was imposed on those found guilty of pilfering gas.
Lahore, Pakistan – Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) is stepping up its efforts to combat gas theft, executing a series of raids across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Islamabad. In its latest operations, the company disconnected 136 illegal gas connections and imposed hefty fines totaling Rs 9 million.
The crackdown saw significant actions in several cities. In Lahore, 36 illegal gas connections were terminated, and 9 connections using gas compressors were dismantled. A fine of Rs 3.68 million was imposed on those found guilty of pilfering gas.
Faisalabad also witnessed strict enforcement, with 9 illegal connections and one compressor-based connection being cut off. A fine of Rs 0.07 million was levied on the violators.
In Sheikhupura, SNGPL’s team disconnected 3 illegal connections and slapped a fine of Rs 3.18 million on the offenders. Gujranwala saw 2 illegal connections being terminated, with Rs 0.78 million in fines collected.
The crackdown continued in Bahawalpur, where the team disconnected 4 illegal connections along with 15 compressor-based connections, while in Multan, 30 illegal connections were severed, alongside 2 compressor connections. Sahiwal followed suit with the termination of 5 illegal connections and a fine of Rs 0.09 million.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mardan region was not spared, as the team disconnected 20 illegal connections, imposing Rs 1.22 million in fines on gas thieves.
