PTI protest: trenches dug up outside Islamabad press club
In view of today’s protest by the PTI against rigging in the general elections, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the city’s administration have dug up trenches in front of the National Press Club,
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had announced to stage “peaceful protests” nationwide today to decry what it alleges as “blatant rigging” during the February 8 national election.
The party, which gave a call for a rally from the F-9 Park to the press club a few days ago, also plans to hold a sit-in in front of the club.
However, their plans to demonstrate in front of the Islamabad Press Club were thwarted as the Islamabad administration denied them permission and has dug trenches preventing them to stage a sit-in.
The administration rejected the PTI’s application, maintaining that demonstration cannot be allowed given Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) which is in force in the city.
The administration has also asked the citizens to avoid being a part of any political gathering. “Islamabad police should take action against those participating in the protest demonstration,” it added.
