Sindh Reduces Rates for Dengue and Malaria Tests

KARACHI: In view of the growing dengue and malaria epidemic across Sindh, the Sindh Healthcare Commission has announced a significant reduction in the prices of dengue, malaria, and complete blood count (CBC) tests.

The decision aims to ensure timely diagnosis and affordable testing for citizens as hospitals continue to report a surge in vector-borne disease cases.

According to the commission, ICT malaria tests will now be available for Rs600, reduced from the previous rate of Rs3,050. Similarly, the Dengue NS test will cost Rs1,100, down from Rs3,450.

The Dengue Combo Test, which detects multiple viral markers, will now cost Rs1,500 instead of Rs4,150, while the CBC test for dengue follow-ups will be available for Rs500, reduced from Rs1,250.

These revised rates will be effective from October 21 to December 31, the commission confirmed

The discounted testing facility has been launched in nine renowned hospitals and laboratories in Karachi, ensuring wider accessibility for citizens.

The SHC stated that this initiative is part of its broader efforts to support early diagnosis and treatment amid rising dengue and malaria cases. It also urged healthcare institutions to strictly adhere to the new pricing structure.

Citizens welcomed the decision, calling it a much-needed step to ease the financial burden on families affected by the outbreak.

However, many urged the Sindh government and the Healthcare Commission to ensure the implementation of the revised rates in all hospitals and laboratories.

Residents also emphasized that, alongside affordable testing, the government must strengthen anti-dengue and anti-malaria spray campaigns to curb the spread of infections.
