Sindh Minister Condemns Indian Film ‘Dhurandhar’ Over Lyari Portrayal

The movie revolves around Karachi’s Lyari gang war and features an Indian spy, played by Ranveer Singh, as the central character.

KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has criticised the Indian film Dhurandhar, calling it negative propaganda against Pakistan, particularly targeting Karachi’s Lyari.

In a post on X, Memon said Lyari should not be associated with violence, highlighting that the area represents culture, peace, talent, and resilience.

He added that the upcoming Pakistani film Mera Lyari, set to release next month, will show the locality’s true face—peaceful, prosperous, and proud.

Dhurandhar, released on December 5, has sparked debate on social media, with some mocking the film while others labelled it propaganda. The movie revolves around Karachi’s Lyari gang war and features an Indian spy, played by Ranveer Singh, as the central character.

The film also depicts the late gang leader Rehman Dakait, played by Akshaye Khanna. Rehman was killed in a 2009 police encounter led by then SSP East Chaudhry Aslam, portrayed in the film by Sanjay Dutt.
