Saudi Arabia pledges $3 billion support for Pakistan

Saudi Arabia backs Pakistan with fresh $3 billion deposit

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has committed $3 billion in financial assistance to Pakistan, with the funds set to be placed in the State Bank of Pakistan. The move underlines Saudi Arabia’s continued support for Pakistan’s economic stability during a challenging period.

According to reports, the Saudi finance minister recently made a brief trip to Islamabad to reassure Pakistani authorities of Riyadh’s backing. The visit aimed to address concerns over potential foreign exchange shortages after another Gulf country withdrew a significant amount of funds from Pakistan.

The latest pledge follows the repatriation of more than $3 billion by a friendly nation, prompting Saudi Arabia to step in with an equivalent deposit to help maintain Pakistan’s foreign reserves. With this addition, Pakistan’s total deposits held with Saudi Arabia will rise further, strengthening its financial cushion.

Officials described the move as an extraordinary step that reflects deep strategic trust and strong bilateral ties. Both civilian and military leadership in Pakistan have expressed appreciation for the timely assistance.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to visit Saudi Arabia soon, where he will personally thank the Crown Prince for the support. During the visit, he is also likely to brief Saudi leadership on Pakistan’s role in facilitating upcoming US-Iran talks and efforts to turn the current ceasefire into a lasting peace arrangement.
