Sindh Declares Rain Emergency Ahead of Heavy Forecast

Emphasizing the importance of caution, CM Shah urged people to avoid unnecessary outings as rainfall is expected in Karachi.

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took proactive measures on Thursday by declaring a rain emergency in the province following a weather forecast predicting heavy rainfall. Chairing a meeting to address the weather emergency, CM Shah instructed local bodies, administration, and hospitals to remain on high alert. Additionally, a half-day duty was declared for all government and private institutions in Karachi on Friday due to the anticipated rain situation.

Emphasizing the importance of caution, CM Shah urged people to avoid unnecessary outings as rainfall is expected in Karachi by 2:00 pm, with multiple spells forecasted throughout the day. He highlighted the potential impact of rainwater entering Sindh from the Khuzdar mountain range and directed Commissioner Larkana to implement all necessary precautionary measures.

Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Salman Shah, briefed the chief minister on potential flood-prone areas, particularly highlighting Shahrah-e-Faisal in Karachi. Furthermore, CM Shah instructed the DIG Traffic to ensure efficient traffic management across the city.

The Meteorological Office has issued a forecast for heavy rainfall across various districts of Sindh, including Karachi, Sukkur, Jacobabad, and others, with wind or thunderstorm expected on February 29th and March 1st. The forecast also indicates the possibility of isolated hailstorms during this period. CM Shah’s proactive approach and coordination with relevant authorities aim to mitigate potential risks and ensure the safety and well-being of residents amidst adverse weather conditions.
